What the LA fires tell us about climate change and future disasters

Listen Later

This is Ask An Expert. Every weekday at 9:20 AM on KCBS, we're giving you direct access to top experts in various fields.
We don't yet know exactly what started the fires down in Los Angeles but most experts agree that certain environmental conditions certainly helped it get going. Climate experts say as we continue to see the impacts of climate change we're also going to continue seeing increasingly severe disasters.
To answer your questions and more, KCBS Radio news anchor Margie Shafer spoke with Scott Stephens, Fire Science professor at UC Berkeley. He's an expert in fire ecology and behavior, as well as environmental biology and forest policy.
