In honour of the summer season, I present to you a fun, uptempo episode with some fantastic musicians from the London up-and-coming band, Tangerine Rye. Tangerine Rye is a band in the soul-rock genre with addictive pop hooks featuring a super talented trio: Jordan, as guitarist and lead signer, Hal as bassist and Oscar, drummer.

In the month of February, we discuss the most serious topic yet on What They Don’t Teach You: depression. Paula bravely and frankly shares her experience of dealing with depression. She's suffered from depression for as long as she can remember. She shares her perspective on tips people can implement if someone close to them is going through depression. We also lift the curtain behind the word ‘depression’ and examine what thoughts lurk underneath the term and discuss tools we’ve found essential to helping us deal with this mental illness.

In this episode, Paula and I both recommend checking out Insight Timer, a free meditative app. Separately, I also personally recommend people check out EdEx’s The Science of Happiness Course (woops, in the intro I say Coursera instead of EdEx, my bad!), provided by leading positive psychologists from the University of Berkeley. It’s free to join and is a powerful aid in increasing one’s happiness immeasurably.

Luke originally grew up in Shanghai, China attending boarding school from a young age. He then moved to Vancouver, Canada at the age of 18. I loved talking to him because he's so open and honest about his feelings and how his past has shaped him to become the man he is today. He talks about moving to Canada and his dream of becoming a Canadian citizen and Canadian police officer. In particular, he shares his experience of lifestyle differences between cultural and parental expectations growing up in China versus Canada.

I'm pleased to announce Reggie Nelson as my latest guest. Growing up in a council estate in east London, Reggie decided at the age of seventeen to go knocking on doors in the richest neighbourhood in London to ask for tips and tricks to become successful himself. From there he found an unlikely mentor who gave him an internship and guided him to go to university and to attain a job as an analyst in the City. His story has blown up all over the news, including on the Daily Mail and the BBC. Reggie now works in the City along with being a public speaker and youth mentor.
