In Saturday's so-called "Mass Recall" vote, Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) failed to win dozens of local government seats from opposition lawmakers in its bid to secure a legislative majority. The Kuomintang (KMT) secured a sweeping victory, retaining all 24 seats. A second round of voting for another seven KMT seats is scheduled for August.
