I thought this book was perfect for my son who was 8 at the time of purchase. We moved from Texas to Colorado and wanted him to have some insight as to where we were headed to. He shared this with his class in Texas and they all enjoyed reading over it as well.
This is a fun, dynamic book of the "top ten sites to see or things to do" in Colorado kids will love ...
Colorado is an awesome state to visit, but when most people think about it they envision themselves skiing down the slopes. True, but there are so many other things to do in Colorado. There are all kinds of great guidebooks, but just what are the "top ten sites to see or do in the Centennial State?" Yes, you can ski, but did you ever think that people head to Colorado to go sandsledding? They sure do, but there are other things people flock to see in Colorado.
COLORADO'S TOP TEN:
â Snow Sports: There are more than twenty hot ski resorts, but you just might want to take a look a Keystone. You can ski, skate, ride a horse-drawn sleigh, and if you get lucky you might meet "Keystone's mascot, Riperoo the dog.
â Great Sand Dunes: Yep, there are dunes in Colorado. If you go there you can check them out at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve near Alamosa. Picture yourself sandboarding, sand sledding, swimming in Medano Creek, or building "sand castles with the wet sand."
â White-Water Rafting: Just about everyone has seen pics of rafters doing their things in the white water. With the snow melt you can "sign up for a rafting trip on the Arkansas or Colorado Rivers." Buena Vista just might be your get wet destination!
â Colorado Gold Rush: If you think California was the only place gold was found, think again! Colorado "miners first found gold in Colorado in 1858." If you like things all shiny and sparkly, you might want to stop off in Leadville, a place where both gold and silver were once mined.
â Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo: Cowboys in Colorado? Why not. The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo is Colorado's largest outdoor rodeo." If you want to participate, you can "try out for the mutton race." You'll also read about a rodeo just for kids. Now that sounds like fun.
â Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad: Wow, take a look at that train wending its way around a mountain! If you decide to ride, "you'll travel approximately 45 miles(72 km) between the towns of Durango and Silverton." Before you ride, you can check out the D&SNGRR Museum in Durango.
â City of Denver: Denver is the Mile High City, but if you like cold hard cash in the form of coins, you might want to visit the mint.
