Many clients have shared with me over the last year that their day-to-day activity has decreased.
Were you the person that worked at corporate headquarters that used to walk a couple football field lengths from the parking lot to your office?
Or maybe you stopped doing grocery shopping and switched to delivery.
Maybe daily and weekly meetings have switched to virtual?
However life has changed for you in the last year one theme has been pretty consistent… we are moving less. The MAJOR PROBLEM with this is we as a culture already didn’t move much before 2020.
With an increase in sitting, you may have noticed weight gain? The second issue is back pain.
Increased sitting weakens our lumbar spine. The muscles that hold your pelvis tall shut off with prolonged sitting.
Our hip flexors get weaker, and shorten which creates a vicious cycle. Short hip flexors (muscles that run from our low back to our femur bones) pull our pelvis out of position into a tucked under pelvic. (Think 90 year old man)
Why you should care is because a tucked under pelvic pulls your shoulders forward and the next thing you know you may feel like you look a decade older.
The good news is with proper posture exercises we have for you, load bearing exercises standing, and extending your spine all can improve your posture and strengthen your body.
We would love to help you with these areas of your body… let your trainer know the next time you see them.
