When a best friend, a sibling, parent or romantic partner is struggling it can feel impossible. That desire to help, to take their pain away is the most natural thing in the world. But unfortunately, it isn’t usually helpful or possible.
Today we are joined by a friend who has seen his sibling struggle with depression and anxiety for the last eight years. He opens up about how complicated and difficult this has been for him. He explains how his perspective has changed throughout the years and shares many of the lessons he learned simply by trying out every strategy. We also discuss how sometimes acting like we aren't also struggling feels easier but it isn't until we’re honest with ourselves and others that we can also start healing.
