When Anxiety Pulls You Out of the Moment

Listen Later

📝 Let’s Reflect:

This episode is for anyone whose brain has ever hit the gas while the rest of them is trying to sit down and enjoy dinner.

You know that feeling when your body is in one place, but your mind is halfway through five future scenarios—none of them relaxing?

Yeah. That.

Anxiety disconnects us from the now. It pulls us into spirals, future problems, and imaginary emergencies. And it makes it really hard to notice the life that’s happening right in front of us.

These prompts are here to help you gently check in and come back to the present.

And as always—you don’t need a fancy setup.

Write in your Notes app, on a receipt, in a grocery list margin, or in your kid’s half-used spiral notebook from last semester. Wherever your thoughts land is the perfect place.

✨ Quick Recap:

When anxiety shows up, it usually means you’ve left the present. These prompts aren’t about solving everything. They’re about noticing, grounding, and reconnecting with right now.

✍🏼 Journal Prompts:

* What does anxiety feel like in your body? How do you know it’s arrived?

* What kinds of thoughts tend to pull you out of the present moment?

* Is there a time recently when you felt really present? What helped you get there?

* What’s something you do that tends to amplify your anxiety without realizing it?

* What’s something that helps you calm your nervous system—without requiring a big plan or purchase?

* When you’re anxious, what do you usually need—but maybe don’t give yourself?

* What are three small moments today that you could slow down and be fully present for?

* When you rush through your day, what are you afraid will happen if you pause?

* Write a grounding mantra you can return to when your brain starts spiraling.(Examples: “I’m safe right now.” “This moment is enough.” “I don’t need to figure everything out today.”)

* What’s one tiny way you can come back to now when things start to feel overwhelming?
