Plants use photosynthesis to convert light into energy. Technical processes like photovoltaics use the same principle to generate electrical energy. But what happens with light and matter when they meet? To find out, the Freiburg physicist Prof. Dr. Frank Stienkemeier exposes molecules to a so-called femtosecond laser. It sends out ultrafast laser pulses that last one-billionth of a second.
