April 11, 2021: The Red Planet is about halfway up in the western sky after sunset. Mars is marching eastward in Taurus near the Bull’s horns.  Watch it move between the horns during the next few evenings.

April 10, 2021: Jupiter and Saturn are the bright stars in the southeast before sunrise.  Use a binocular to note their eastward movement compared to the background stars.

April 10, 2021: After sunset, Mars is about halfway up in the western sky near the horns of Taurus.  Mars is somewhat close to the Crab Nebula.  A telescope reveals a dim, cloudy patch of light.

April 8, 2021: Jupiter and Saturn are low in the eastern sky before sunrise.  As the sky brightens for the approaching sunrise, the crescent moon appears low in the east-southeast.

April 8, 2021: In the evening sky, Mars approaches the Bull’s horns in the western sky after sunset.  The planet is now higher than Betelgeuse, Orion’s second brightest star.

April 7, 2021: Bright Jupiter and Saturn are in the southeast before sunrise.  The moon is low in the southeast, to the lower right of Jupiter.  Find a clear horizon to see it.  Today daylight is 13 long from Chicago’s latitude.  After sunset, find Mars about halfway up in the west, below the Bull’s horns.

April 6, 2021: This morning, the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn are low in the southeast before sunrise.  The lunar crescent is 4.7° to the lower right of Saturn, while Jupiter is 12.5° to the lower left of the Ringed Wonder.

April 6, 2021:  Find Mars in the west after sunset.  It is approaching the Bull’s horns.  Mars, not as bright as it was a few months ago, is in a sea of the bright winter stars.
