The Private Record — Episode 17 — "When Your Friend's Trauma Becomes Your Drama"

Episode 17 is here and IT IS A WILD ONE! So many twists and turns in this one, it’s best to keep this short and sweet, so here goes—

Our guest Jason was in college in Florida at the time of this tale, when he and his brothers decided to rent a place there for a chill summer full of sunshine and partying. Only a few friends of his remained in town while school was out— one of them being the ex girlfriend of Jason’s former roommate. And at a get together at Jason’s place one night, this ex-girlfriend of Jason’s friend showed up (AGAIN— after already having left about an hour earlier) in a very bad way... bloodied, beaten, and unable to speak— clearly severely traumatized in some way. Freaked out for his friend and just generally wanting to be a good person, Jason immediately took on a protector role of sorts, which ends up being wayyyyy more than he bargained for...

To avoid giving too much away, it's best to leave it at that— but let’s just say things only get crazier from there! MUCH MUCH crazier. You don’t wanna miss this one!

The Private Record — Episode 016 — "When You Make Fake Money To Buy Drugs & Your Dealer Tries To Kill You For It"

This story sounds and feels like a sequence from a movie BUT, the thing is, it ACTUALLY HAPPENED. And the fact that our guest Christina is even alive to tell us the tale is... well... absolutely and completely bingbong bonkers insane.

When Christina was a teenager she was hooked on heroin. Like, REALLY hooked. So hooked, in fact, that at one point she needed a fix so bad that she (along with two equally heroin-hooked friends) printed fake money (on regular computer paper!!!) to buy over 200 hundred dollars worth of H from their gang-affiliated dealer. Somehow, at first, the exchange goes off without a hitch— but when Christina's friend steps back into her car to drive off with the goods, Christina quickly realizes this will NOT be the clean getaway she was hoping for. What ensues is a high speed chase along an interstate freeway, infuriated gangbangers, and gunshots whizzing by the heads of Christina and her heroin-addled friends.

The Private Record — Episode 015 — "When a Silly Prank Goes Very Very Wrong"

Mason's plan to prank his college roommate was simple enough. But as we all know, even the simplest of plans don't always work out as... well... planned! And frankly, Mason's plan could not have worked out any WORSE. Right out of the gate, one unfortunate (but hilarious) development led to another, and then to another, and so on, resulting in Mason paying an absurdly (and comically) high price for his rather harmless prank attempt. This was of course all very bad news for Mason. But it was very GOOD news for Matt, and is great news for all of you, because you get to hear this prank-gone-wrong story from Mason himself— and laugh, and laugh, and laugh (both AT Mason AND with him). 

After some rather serious stories on the show over the last few weeks, we figured a few laughs might do you some good. And we think this is our funniest episode yet. Comment and let us know if you agree!

When a Silly Prank Goes Very Very Wrong

The Private Record — Episode 014 — "When Someone Uses You To Commit Suicide" 

In what is a first for The Private Record (and very possibly the last!), Matt speaks with a victim of a rare but increasingly prevalent phenomenon known as ‘pedestrian suicide’. Don’t know what that is? Well neither did Matt— until this episode’s guest Bekah enlightened him on the matter by telling her story. 

Which goes like this: around 2am, after a long night at work, Bekah was driving home along an empty Atlanta freeway when WHAM— her car slams into a blur that had suddenly flung itself right in front of her, out of absolutely nowhere. After crashing into the median Bekah somehow gained control of her vehicle, came to a stop, looked back, and— yep, that blur was a human being. 

And somehow, this was only the BEGINNING of Bekah’s nightmare night. Speaking of nightmares— Matt’s been having them ever since conducting this interview. So consider yourself warned— intense content ahead!

The Private Record — Episode 013 — "When Your Stomach Explodes"

Our guest today is a charming Australian fellow named Kirby. And boy oh boy does he have a medical nightmare of a story for you!

About 4 years ago, at the peak of the world’s initial Covid freak-out, Kirby’s stomach had a freak-out of its own… unthinkable, unbearable, impossible-to-imagine pain. Usually not one to worry, Kirby knew he had no choice but to rush to the hospital, which of course was being flooded with panicked (and dying) Covid patients. Basically, it was the absolute worst time in world history to go to the emergency room. 

But it’s a good thing Kirby DID go to the emergency room. Thanks to an underlying condition Kirby didn’t even know he had, his large intestine had quite literally exploded, causing his body to go into septic shock, putting him on the precipice of death. 5 weeks, 3 surgeries, 1 bout with Covid, 1 (temporary) colostomy bag, and 1 gnarly scar later, Kirby would be able to say he had gone through complete and utter hell— and was extremely lucky to still be among the living. 

This is his story!
