When You’re Overwhelmed

Listen Later

In her latest book, Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of the Human Experience, five-time #1 New York Times best-selling author Brene Brown writes:

“Overwhelmed means an extreme level of stress, an emotional and/or cognitive intensity to the point of feeling unable to function… completely overcome or overpowered by thought or feeling… “

Consider these questions:

  • When do you feel overwhelmed?
  • When do you feel unsure of what to do next?
  • When do you feel as if your life is unfolding faster than I can handle it?
  • What are the sensations of overwhelm in your body?
  • When do you argue with, ignore, avoid, or numb your overwhelm?
  • What does your body need when you’re overwhelmed and what might prevent you from listening?
  •
