Loren wanted all of his listeners to know that he loved them and that he was thankful for them. Doing this podcast was so fulfilling for him and he loved every opportunity he had to learn more and share that knowledge. Thank you to everyone who has and will listen to his podcasts. Journey with us to a time in our country’s past where life was hard, but hope for a better future was strong. The promise of new life in the west called many families to leave everything familiar behind. Pioneers were seeking a new land of opportunity where one could homestead and raise a family. Stockades became the gathering place of protection for these pioneers during troubled times.
In 1880 Kansas had passed a constitutional amendment prohibiting the non-medicinal sale of intoxicating beverages, which Kansas saloon keepers widely ignored. This troubled Carry greatly, and she began smashing saloons in her attempt to enforce the law. She smashed her first saloon on June 1, 1900, in Kiowa, 20 miles away.

Listed on the National Register of Historic places, the Wyoming Territorial Prison is an imposing stone structure built in 1872 and restored in 1990.
Visitors usually take a self-guided tour of the prison grounds, but during the summer season a limited number of drop-in, guided tours are available. Visit the prison Broom Factory to learn about the history of the buliding and how prisoners made brooms.
After the prison closed, the Site spent most of its life as an experimental stock farm station for the University of Wyoming. Visit the historic horse barn to see the exhibit, "Science on the Range" and learn more.

The Outlaw Trail ended here! No need to commit a crime to "do time" at the Territorial Prison. Built first as a Federal Prison (1872-1890), it later became Wyoming’s State Penitentiary (1890-1903). During the 30 years it was in operation, 1,200 prisoners, including the notorious Butch Cassidy, walked through the front iron doors and occupied the cells. Now a museum, visitors walk the halls where prisoners were locked up, worked and lived.

“… It should be remembered that from October to the end of May the weather in the desert is what babies cry for and old, rich people pay large sums of money to obtain.”

The O’Fallon Historical Museum is dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of the history, culture, and stories of Fallon County and the surrounding area.
Baker, MT was founded in open-range cattle country in 1908 and built by the influx of people drawn to the railroad and homesteaders seeking an opportunity for a better life. Agriculture, followed by natural gas and then oil production, provided the means for development in this rural setting on the eastern plains of Montana.
Our museum is housed in six buildings. The anchor building is the original Fallon County Jail, built in 1916 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Steer Montana, the world’s largest steer at 3,980 pounds, is a featured attraction. Admission is FREE – we look forward to hosting you!
