How come when we watch reruns of the TV series West WIng or the movie America President we know how to write ethical and honest fictional Presidents that inspire us yet continually vote for real ones that are at best disappointing and at worst criminal?  Its too easy to call all politicians corrupt without looking at how they get where they are and what happends to their character along the way. What turns them dark? What is our role, as the governed, in creation and perpetuation of the corruption and unethical behavior we rail against.
