Memorial Day was actually referred to as: "Decoration Day" before being declared Memorial Day. Decoration as on account it began as a day to honor the dead soldiers by strewing beautiful spring flowers on their graves.
There is a rich history on this tradition. It really stems back to 1864, then will founded in 1866-1868, and so on.
Bottom line is: Memorial Day is not Veterans Day, nor is it Armed Forces Day. This is a day set aside to honor those Veterans who are deceased.
Oh,....and FYI I failed to mention. The Doc never asked to see my CPAP Machine.
