Cheers to you, my brilliant friend!
Welcome to the Intelligent Intoxication podcast - where I’ll get you smashed on success without the buzzkill of burnout.
The Crossroads of Should and Must: Find and Follow Your Passion by author and artist, Elle Luna.
Here is my understanding of how should’s are created (based on what I’ve learned from my delightly wise friend and colleague, Sally Hardie (@sallyhardie):
When we are young, we have two distinct needs:
To be loved by and attached to our care-givers in order to be safe
To be authentic:
to be accepted and valued for our unique gifts and talents
to trust our bodies to tell us what is okay/not okay
When these two needs are in conflict, we will always default to achieving safety through staying loved and attached.
In order to be loved by and attached to our caregivers, we are conditioned to believe that we SHOULD be, do, and act in a certain, acceptable way.
I invite you to fill in the following prompts:
“I should never…. “
“I should always… “
“I should know better than to… “
“I should not… “
