Gripping Story
I enjoy Anne Groves books very much. She goes into detail enough that you can picture the scene perfectly. I have read this whole series, I admire the people that lived through that most terrible time in history..There was alot of the "English slang" that I had to look up the meaning .
I would recommend these books to everyone. Martha the mother seemed to be holding the whole family together, actually they were all holding the family together.
Memories
I was 2 years old when WWII started in 1939. I was born and lived in Glasgow, Scotland. Our house was very close to shipyards which were bombed regularly, and I can remember the sirens warning everyone to go to the air-raid shelters. This story brought a lot of memories rushing back over the 6 years of war. Annie Groves has done a very good job of relating the life during this period and I look forward to reading "When the Lights Go On Again" (taken from a song sung by Very Lynn and heard almost every day).
Jenny
The Champion series read them all, didn't want them to end,I was born during the second war in UK and could relate to the hardships ,bombings, ration books and being hungry, it was all there to read and remember along with a good story about the Campions, love books like this, first time I had read Annie Grove will read more that's for sure
Trials and Triumphs.
A good look back into the trying conditions the people had to endure throughout the war years. People, especially women taking on tasks that they would never be considered for in peacetime. A triumph of "making do and carrying on". This book is a compelling read.
Excellent historical drama.
I love this series, am totally captivated by the characters and the intricacies of their lives. This is a wonderful lock yourself away and be transported back into time drama. Would probably make a good tv series.
