A German classic that get's better as I get older
Every German knows about Till Eulenspiegel, the (mostly) loveable Jester who plays Tricks on unassuming citizens and often gets himself out of troubling situations that way. Like the time when he taught a Donkey to "read" by putting oats between the pages of a book. Till won the bet and got out of town just before the good citizens realized they'd been duped.
I remember my Grandmother telling me these stories and then reading them in School. This is a German classic that gets better with age (mine) and I'm looking forward to telling these stories to my
I got the Kindle edition so can't talk much about the appearance of the book. It's a short read, no story is longer than five pages or so and it can easily be tackled in a weekend. If you are learning German this might not be the best book for you, since a lot of the language is the old High German, something that even I had trouble with here and there. But if you're in for a chuckle, or maybe a laugh here and there, this is a good read.
A classic for German literature of the Early New High German period.
The book is a Modern German translation of a Early New High German work. Very insightful and of course for everyone in historical linguistics and literature studies!
like the book
I have known the character for a while, reading some of the adventures in high school German class. It is a nice way to brush up on my German. Next time however I will pick an American edition with a built in dictionary. I had to download a dictionary and going back and forth is a bit of a pain on the Kindle.
