a good story ,well read in a clear voice, interesting characters and there ways of life

Beautiful Story

This was a charming description of a small country town in the 90s. The characters were described affectionately and the connection to the surrounding country was well made. The storyline was strong and I really enjoyed this book.

The only distraction was the reader; her constant inflections at the end of sentences almost made me turn this book off.

Tidy enjoyable novel which ticks all the boxes.

The narrators role is crucial in the delivery of an audiobook, and the chosen one was perfect for this book. I loved the fine detail in the story. It was joy to listen to. I found I had to keep listening beyond when i had planned, so while it was not thrilling it was intriguing trying to identify who dun it.

The interesting plot had potential, but ultimately didn't hold my interest

I read this book for the first time last year, but then I ended up taking a year break from reviewing. Terrible, I know. So I didn't want to write a review on The Light Fantastic based on what I remember from a year ago because that wouldn't be fair, and also I honestly couldn't recall much about it apart from the overall plot. I do remember that I wasn't all that thrilled with it the first time, and while I did enjoy it a bit more the second time around, it was still very underwhelming.

The novel follows the story of several different high schoolers, although I guess you could say the two main characters are April and Lincoln. The other characters have their part to play, but the most time is spent on the two I mentioned. April has a way of remembering things from her life with perfect clarity, one of these events being when her friend Lincoln moved away when they were younger. They lived miles away from each other, yet they were both about to be affected by this murder pact. Basically, students from 48 states (excluding Hawaii and Alaska) took part in a forum to lament how terrible their lives were. Now I'm not saying they didn't have it rough; I know how cruel other people can be and bullying is a serious problem in our school systems, but some of their stories just didn't add up to their proposed actions. What were those proposed actions? They all planned on taking guns/weapons into their schools on a specific day and eliminating those they felt had wronged them. This isn't that hard to imagine happening in this day and age, which is depressing in itself. In addition to April and Lincoln, you also get the point of view of April's friend Gavin, one of the teens in the pact who goes by Idaho, and the mastermind behind the whole thing.

Odd and confusing

Wonderful & brilliant

I was constantly telling people about this book while I was listening to it. I adored it! I haven't read Water for Chocolate since the early 90's but this book reminded me of it in many ways. It's magical & fantastical!

Heather, Bubbles & Feather are 3 distinct characters who can also blend as one. The story telling of these characters was some of the best parts. The past & present blended well. You could visualize the time periods. I simply loved this book!

Funny story

This could be a time travel but is not. A 90 year old(Bubbles, the mother) and her 60 year old (Feather, the daughter) daughter travel to Mexico to collect the ashes of Feather's grandmother. They are of Irish descent and believe in magic. Their misadventures kept me entertained as they became involved with the men of the country. The narrator was ver good. She told the story and all of the characters voices were the same. But did not distract from the story. Loved the conclusion.

A Little Weird...

This is a book that you need to really pay attention to while listening to it... or you will keep going back to know whats going on, lol! Its kind of weird, but fun. Every now and then the author takes you to times in the past and either Feather or Bubbles are remembering something from their youth, which helps to understand the characters better. I liked it that Feather (the daughter) gets to understand her mom while both go on a spur of the moment trip to Mexico.

Anna Crowes narration was a little dry at times, but I got used to it.

A must for fans of the series or Greg!

If youve been a fan of the series, this gives us more background into the night that Taryn and Thanos broke all the rules and become lovers.

Its told in bits and bursts- mixing present day with past recollections.

Greg Boudreauxs narration is perfect! Hes so very easy to listen to and does a wonderful job with the myriad accents in the story.

I think anyone who hadnt read the previous stories might be a bit lost, but for fans of the series this a must! Its great learning about how these two strong characters bucked the system and we get peeks at the other characters as well.

5 stars, excellent story and narration!

The Cellar is a wonderful look at those scenes that don't appear in Appearances, yet still enrich the Opposites series as a whole...and of course make fans of the series like me REALLY happy by giving us just a bit more of the characters we love.

I love how Taryn fights for what-or rather WHO-he wants, and the story of how he and Thanos meet and come together is sweet, moving, and of course steamy hot! When it comes to Raven and Tanis, I can never get enough of the two of them so this sizzling, sexy glimpse of them really helps stave off those withdrawals of missing the two of them together once I'd read Opposites and Appearances. Don't even get me started on Aiyan and Kaden...those two have been naughty from the start, and this quick look at them in the mistletoe scene is no different (thank goodness!) ;-)

As for the narration of this tasty novella, Greg Boudreaux does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. I love the accents, and he gives every character a unique, consistent voice throughout the story. The pacing is perfect, and I could listen to this over and over...and probably will be doing so pretty soon! And as for the intimate scenes? Refer back to that "bringing characters to life" part...oh yes.

5 stars for The Cellar, both for the story and the excellent audio narration! Recommended for M/M readers 18+ (for adult language and explicit M/M sexual content), especially if you are a fan of sci-fi/dystopian stories.

Less mystery & intrigue than previous stories

Still an enjoyable story with the loveable Theodore Boone but I did miss the mystery/investigative aspect that usually feature in his plot lines.
