Very readable

Great book

I had discovered this author when I read one of his books on a cruise. It had been left in the ship's library by another passenger and was in the library as a "passenger swap". I enjoyed his book so much I ordered others by him. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. If no one has ever read this author, I would advise them to do so.

I is so interesting to read a book with some romance, written by a man. To think he also is a Master Gardener as well.

elegant love story

Nothing new neither in stye (two story lines in one book) nor in subject (a love story with an unhappy ending). But this modern love story is told in an elegant style and with an observant eye that kept me captivated.

I've never read anything from this author before. But I will look out for more. He certainly has potential!

The narration is well done - the Aussie accent is a nice change!

Even great narration cannot save this book

If I read this book in print form, my review might be different. It seems as if the author is telling dual stories, juxtaposed throughout the book. But the two stories seem unrelated to a listener, and it is very hard to follow the purpose of the jumps between the two stories. In addition, the sex scenes (there are a number) are very graphic and might be perfectly acceptable in a book on sexual technique, but were completely out of place in this book. In the end, even Humphrey Bower's excellent narration couldn't get me through this novel. I gave up on the book about 3/4s of the way through. It was going nowhere.

Story & Narrator ~ A Perfect Duo!

I love Cherry Adair's books and Ms. Carrington MacDuffie hits it just right with inflection, mood, and accents. This is a good read as well as a terrific listen: a little magic, adventure, bio-warfare, alpha male, and romance all in one. I could use just a teeny bit less feisty female in some stories but somehow Ms. Adair always seems to hit the right mark. Try it you'll like it!

Fall for TFLAC

Once I allowed myself to relax and suspend reality, I got into the storyline. At times, it moved slowly but overall, it was a good listen. (I only read the trilogy that was part of the larger TFLAC series) Narration was well done.

Just was boring and confusing

I would change the narrative and the plot and maybe give the characters some depth. Didn't like it so much.

Night Fall audio

This is my first book by Cherry Adair and it will not be my last. Adair writes well formed characters, witty dialogue, strong female character, adventure with a fast paste, some steamy sex and twist and turns. could not put the book down. what made this book even better was the narrator.... brilliant and talented. Carrington was able to perform male voices and unusual accents.

If they follow T Flac, yes. It's a good story, just not GREAT, and the narration is decent. This is one I'd suggest you wait until you get a deal on it, not use a full credit.

Ending was good

Unlike the first reader, I really did not enjoy this book. In fact, it was hard for me to stick with until the end, which was the only good part of the book. There was way too much(who talks like that)conversation and drawn out discriptions.

Rainy Day People

This is one of the most fantastic books I have listened to in a long time. I had trouble shutting it off to get anything else done. When she had her accident I thought all hope was gone. I shut off my MP3 player, removed my glasses and wept crocodile tears. Not only was the book well written, but it was also well read. I will listen to more of her books in the future. Loved it!

Loved this! And that surprised me for a couple reasons.

First, it very much mimics Kelley Armstrong's first two Otherworld books plotwise, at least initially. Luckily Vincent does have a very firm grip on her world and knows what to do with it, so by the end I was just taking things as they came.

Second, Faythe is a spoiled, thoughtless brat for the first half of the book. I just couldn't like her much. But looking back now it totally fits, so instead of being annoyed I'm actually pleased that the author decided to be real with her character. Given her environment it was unlikely that Faythe could have been a considerate sweetheart, so writing her that way would have been a cop-out on the author's part. It also made a better backdrop for the action-packed second half of the book, and leaves plenty of room for Faythe to grow in later books. (Which I hope we'll see!)

It's the second half of the book that made me love it -- I was all keyed up and couldn't stop listening. If you're a fan of the genre and you like suspense, hold on through the first half and the initial adventures of Little Miss User of Men -- the real story comes midway. I started off not very impressed and ended up ready for a relisten!

Oh, and I was pleased with the narrator as well!

Whiny Heroine, Frustrating to Listen to

This book was painful to listen to. I was hoping it would get better and it just didn't. You are forced into a first person narrative with a heroine who is a self absorbed twit. Her only concern is about how everything affects her with no concern what so ever for how her actions affect the people around her. Almost a "poor little rich girl" menatality, but with a loving and caring family instead of an emotionally distant one. She kept proclaiming her adulthood but acting like a surly rebelious teenager. Kept proclaiming her independence and self reliance while mommy and daddy (and yes, she still actullay calls him "Daddy", you can practically hear her whinning it) continue to pay all her bills. I actually checked the author's website, thinking I accidentally bought a young adult book given the main characters obnoxious attitude, but no, she is suppossed to be in her 20's - even still, I know teenagers with more common sense, responsibilty, respect and regard for others - this character is just self absorbed and it was a frustrating read to say the least. Her decison making and reasoning is ridiculous - I found myself shouting epitaphs aloud and exclaiming things like, "Come on, really? Seriously?!".

Great Book, horrible narrattion

Would you consider the audio edition of The McClane Apocalypse, Book 1 to be better than the print version?

What did you like best about this story?

Nothing

How did the narrator detract from the book?

lt seemed the narrator was reading the story for the first time, without having prereading of the story. Her disjointed reading caused me to stop enjoying the story, many times. This should be re-recorded, with someone who has at least read it a couple of times before putting to tape.

Good book but....

I would have loved this book if it wasnt for the narration... probably the worst ive ever heard. I was hoping they would have found someone else to do the next book but looks like it wont happen. Buy this book and read it but dont listen unless you like the sound of a robot.

Good story, poor execution.

I am very torn on my feelings about this book. Let's start with the good. The story is told from multiple points of you and gives you an Ray of subplots to follow in the whole story. It is situated on a farm in Tennessee and has a nice homey five. That's where the good ends.

The narration is flat. There is nothing worse than reading a book with no voice characteristics. It was also was short and clipped. And I felt like there was no emotion. Of course that can be contributed to the book itself as well. The story had a lot of potential but it just missed the important details. That's great that the author put in medical and military terminology. But that's all it had. I felt no emotion no attachment to the characters. I felt like it was right there just to beyond my grasp.

As I've said, the book is a good story. Great foundation and raw material just poorly put together. Because of this I was planning on getting the second book anyway to continue the story. It's not on Audible. I'm the type of person that has a 2 Hour commute every day for work. I don't get to finish the story unless I want to sit at home and read it.
