Great Story and Well Written.
Well written and attention grabbing story. I read it all the way through. The story itself was interesting, worth while, and realistic. I do not want to give anything away, so I will end here! Applauded after reading!
A Different Kind of Love Story
Nancy falls in love with her childhood sweetheart, Tom. She is heartwarming and very likable, but soon the pitfalls have Nancy realizing she has some decisions to make.Tom is not exactly like she remembered. He has a few issues that get on her nerves to say the least. How many times do we find out people are not who they say they are? I really felt the struggle between her and Tom. I can't wait to read more from this Author!
Alcoholism, Domestic Violence, Financial Trouble, Controlling Parents
This book is raw. But I suppose it should be raw. The main character is trapped in an abusive relationship. Like so many bad marriages, this one features alcohol fueled domestic violence, financial problems, and dominating parents who cherish control more than love. The book has a choppy style, but perhaps it is appropriate for the horrific decades long travesty that Tom foists on Nancy. I didn't like reading the book, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good book. At times the language was difficult to parse, but that also doesn't mean it isn't a good book. There are no flowing phrases or descriptions of beautiful people. The only literary part of the book occurs during a brief vacation to Hawaii. Again, perhaps it is appropriate that the only pretty part of the book occurs during ten days when the abuse stops and the parties can relax in the sun and the smell of the flowers. The staccato, sometimes disjoint style was initially annoying to me, but then as I continued to read, as I suffered through episode after episode with Nancy, the style began to match the story. When you read this book, read it start to finish, in one go, and let the style, tone, pace, and language become part of Nancy, and how a woman like Nancy would tell her painful tale.
It wasn't the book for me...
Nancy and Tom are high school sweethearts who end up marrying. Tom's mother has never approved of Nancy and is constantly belittling her to Tom and trying to cause problems in their relationship. Tom is immature and does whatever his Mom tells him to do. Nancy is nave and thinks that love can conquer all. She finds out that Tom is not the person that she believed him to be. He becomes an alcoholic and abuses her. They have a daughter and he still continues his poor behavior.
The story line of this short novel is good, that people aren't always what they seem to be.
