There is a particular beauty in a human being's hands.
A child reaches out to hold the finger of a parent.
A teenager interlaces fingers with another on a date.
An elder, whose life is becoming more insular, clasps their own together, as though in silent prayer, as though to offer comfort in the loneliness of aging.
Today's episode is about two beautiful women whose hands invited me to a deeper appreciation of the stories held within them.

It is a rare gift to bear witness to another person's life and to be a healing presence as they discover something about their own story, their own journey, through the experience of being gently held.
Being a safe space for those revelations is one of the greatest blessings of being a massage therapist.
Today's episode is about a beautiful woman listening with her heart and her body and allowing her feelings to flow freely.

It might come as no surprise that massage brings about changes within a client, and sometimes the therapist is altered by a session as well.
Today's episode speaks to the power of touch in a way that, even 25 years later, takes my breath away. It explores the possibility of seeing the world through a different filter, changing not only one's body...but one's perspective.
When we actually make connections, it is more difficult to judge, more difficult to generalize, more difficult to label one another.
When we allow ourselves to be touched, physically and emotionally, deep healing is possible.

There are some memories we can't quite explain or find words for-but they, literally, bowl us over. A few such examples I've had of this powerful impact; the smell of my Mom's perfume on her clothing as I cleaned out her closets and drawers after her death, or the scent of cinnamon in a kitchen reminding me of my grandmother's weekly gift of freshly baked loaves of bread. Both create such depth of feeling and experience within me; I'm sure you have some scents that create similar responses in your life. Before any of us have time to actually think, a specific smell causes us to remember a place, a person, a moment.
In this episode, I tell the story of how scent transported a client not only to a location-but to a specific person, and how that created a deep sense of trust, release and safety for her.

Our bodies are often speaking long before we find the words. A sore neck, a tightness in the stomach, an ache that lingers without explanation.
What if these aren't symptoms to be silenced, but messages trying to get our attention.
Today's episode explores the conversation between body, mind and spirit...and what can happen when we truly begin to listen.

There are rare individuals whose lives hold such an elegance and a beauty that they inspire those around them. They don't live this way because they have escaped suffering, but rather they choose to respond to their challenges with courage, resilience and kindness.
In this episode, I share the story of a woman facing death with remarkable artistry and generosity. Rather than allowing a devastating illness to define her final chapter, she transforms it into an offering. Her life becomes a kind of testament in my early career reminding me that love, creativity and grace do not always fade in the shadow of a terminal diagnosis.
Sometimes we are gifted with the privilege of witnessing such a life daring to become more luminous every day. May her story bless you as much as it does me.

Honestly, I paused before writing and publishing today's episode .
It tells the story of a session that has become extraordinary in my 30 years of practice. I have never experienced anything like it again in the 25 years since it happened.
I am including it to remind myself, and I hope anyone listening, that there are moments when we are invited to step out of our comfort zones, listen to guidance or direction we might receive, and follow it.
Honestly, none of us knows how your lives might touch another's.
We never know how listening and responding might place us in a position of helping someone, even a stranger, to heal.

Memories have an interesting way of making themselves known to us in the present moment. Our bodies remember things, even if our minds don't.
Long before we have words, our gestures find unique expression; a raised chin, rounded shoulders, downcast eyes. Research in neuroscience has shown that our life experiences shape our patterns of movement, our connective tissue and our muscular tension.
In this episode, we explore the fascinating relationship between memory and movement, and how one client's physical gesture became a clue to her deeper story.

This episode was written and recorded in honor of a gentleman named Robert Levine. We met for the first time on the day before his 96th birthday.
Bob inspired me to look at life through a lens of gratitude and thoughtfulness. A consummate gentleman, though he had struggled mightily in his younger life, he met each day with a sense of wonder and curiosity.
I wanted his story to be published between Memorial Day and the anniversary of D-Day, as Army Private Robert Levine was a decorated veteran of World War II. His service to our country changed the trajectory of his life forever.
Many thanks to his daughters, Jane Powers and Nancy Harney, for allowing me to share his incredible story here on Where We Touch. Below are a few links if you'd like more information on his heroic journey:
