~~ The importance of living in the "now" ~~
What is mindfulness meditation? John Kabat-Zinn is the founder and director of the Stress Reduction Clinic in Massachusetts.
Important to note that this book by Eureka is a SUMMARY (think DETAILED review) of the original book by John. Maybe you don't have time to read the 316 page original or maybe you want to have an idea of what it is about before buying it. Whatever reason, this summary will give you a good gist of what is in the original. There are 8 Key Takeaways in this summary. Here are a couple to whet your appetite:
>>>#1 - "The present moment is the only thing we can try to control, but often people remain preoccupied by the past and future, or the hypothetical actions of other people. This distraction causes many people to miss out on some of the important moments in their lives."
>>>#6 - "A person's posture, including how they hold their hands, is just as important to mindfulness meditation as the person's state of mind. Postures can take different forms and have different meanings for the mind and body."
How important is is to live in the present? What are the consequences if we don't? Have you tried meditation in the past and failed? Maybe your expectations were too high and your rules too rigid? Several lifestyle examples are provided. What is "selfing"? Is it a good way to live? The original book is described as having brief but focused chapters.
Please note that my review is based on the quality of this Eureka summary and NOT the original. Book provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz
Excellent summary.
I received this book in order to write a review, and I must say -- this summary of "Wherever You Go, There You Are" is really great. The underlying book is about mindfulness and finding peace, and this summary does a great job of explaining the key ideas. It took me about 25 minutes to read it, and by the end of that time, I realized that I want to get the actual book and invest the time in reading it.
If you are looking for a book to learn about meditation, or about how to have better control over your emotions and find peace, I'd suggest starting with this summary so that you can decide if the actual book would be a good fit for you.
