On today’s episode, Barbara and I will be talking about her experiences growing up in the south.  Barbara is 68 years old. She has been married to her husband for 36 years. She has two sons ages 34 and 31. She was born in Tulsa, OK but moved to Little Rock, AK when she was four, and lived there for 29 years. She retired this year from being a physical therapist and moved to be closer to her youngest son’s family here in Bluffton, SC. I am good friends with her daughter in law and was very happy when she agreed to talk to me about her experiences in different spaces in her life in regards to her interracial marriage and biracial children.

Conversations are hard but create growth that is needed. On today’s episode, I am so excited because we’ll be jumping into our interview series. So, if you missed it, I encourage you to go back and listen to Ep. 3 where I explain the purpose of my research and I describe a bit about my participants demographics. Today, I have the privilege and honor to speak with my friend Kriston who is also on the journey of obtaining her doctorate at Georgia Southern University in the very same program that I am studying, Curriculum Studies. Kriston is 39 years old. She has been married to her husband for 18 years and has been together a total of 25 years. Her daughter is 14 years old. She is from Georgia and still resides in Georgia, although not in the same town as where she grew up. She is both an educator and Coach. I was really excited to speak with her about her journey through life. I was particularly interested in talking about how her perspectives have changed through the study of power struggles, oppression, and positionality that we cover in our program.

On today's episode of WWIABB Podcast, I will be explaining how the creation of this podcast is in direct connection with the degree that I am on the journey of obtaining. This podcast allows me to share this journey with you and the lived experiences of white mothers focusing on their shifts in racial perspectives. I will talk about the program I am apart of at Georgia Southern University and outline the theoretical framework and methodology I will be using. Do not be deterred by these academic terms, these are simply the tools I will need to complete my research. Although, is research ever really completed? And why not do research that can be heard by all?
