Well, first, I got to tell you, I’m worried. I’m really worried. I’m worried about the future of our great tradition of hunting. And it goes beyond our ability to have things like guns and all of that because I really believe that while that is a very important fight, and we’re fighting it well, I believe that long before we lose the ability to keep and bear arms we may lose, if not the ability to hunt, the societal desire to continue hunting.

Same way with the cameras, it’s something that’s not normally there, it’s out of their element. They’re not used to it and I’ve seen deers slowly shy away from them. The season comes and their testosterone levels change and things like that. You know, it’s just like in late September it’s like those bucks just flip a switch and they go from daytime deer to nocturnal. You know, they do the same thing on cameras.

Well, I started out many, many years ago with some of the first. They weren’t even cameras. They were trail timers, and you had to put a piece of string across the trail and it tripped. And I started even before that time, with photography. I had trip cameras, my Nikons. I would put those on bear baits or elk trails, or waterholes, and rig them up to where the trip string [inaudible 00:15:29]. And I had a mouse trap with electrical coil. Pull the string, it would set the mouse trap off, which would close the circuit and take a picture. That was many, many, years ago. That was back before there was such a thing as trail camera. And then the first thing that came out was with trail timer. And I started using those. There was a couple of them that you just got one picture, break the string, tell you what time the deer had come.

I would try, if I didn’t have somebody that I knew of associated with WomensOutdoorNews.com, I would try and get online and find some good local organizations to match her up with. The columnists and the ladies involved with women’s outdoor news are from all over the U.S., so there’s a good chance we might have somebody in that area and if we don’t, well there’s lots of avenues we can search for somebody that would be willing to help her.

Well, we’re actually on a featured, one of the small groups that are featured on a show called The Search. It’s on the Pursuit Channel through either Dish or DirectTV, and it’s eight teams vying for a spot, for their own spot, on the Pursuit Channel. so it’s a reality TV show contest. So last night was the second week of the search but it was our first time being featured on there for a video. So our show aired last night. We had a nice watch party and it went really, really well. We had some great sponsors like Moultrie, and Horny Buck Seed Company and those on the social media side, they really shared our page and got us a lot of votes and we’re in it to win it. We’ve got like 12 more weeks and we’ll see who the winner is.

Leah: Yeah. So, my dad is a teacher, and his student got something called “Hunt of a Lifetime.” It’s kind of like Make a Wish, but for people who love hunting. So I got chosen for a Hunt of a Lifetime, and we talked to this lady named Tina and some other people, and they really helped us out. They gave us a lot of information, and they told us that they would send us up to Quebec on a caribou and black bear hunt.

So we went up there to the Leaf River Lodge. It’s the farthest north that you can get pretty much in Quebec. Remi, our guide, really helped us about a lot too. Without him, we would have never gotten the experience that we got, with the black bear and caribou.

My first deer camp, that’s interesting. That would have been, I wasn’t 12 years old, that was the actual age for being able to hunt. When I was a kid one of my dad’s rules was you had to work in the summer and earn enough money doing construction to earn your deer rifle before you could go deer hunting, so it took me a while to do that. My first deer camp was in northern Wisconsin, I believe in 1983, I could be wrong on the year, but it was a traditional deer camp, uncles, brothers, cousins, all jammed into a very small little one room cabin. It was everything that anybody can think of when you think of the classic deer camp, waking up early in the morning, huge breakfast, everybody going out and basically, to be honest not really knowing what we were doing.
