During this week's State of the State address, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said literacy is the top priority in her final year in office.
In her budget, the governor recommended $100 million to fund high-impact tutoring, $100 million for literacy curricula, and $50 million to train teachers — which would all have to be approved by the legislature.
So, how realistic is that plan? WWJ's Amanda Forrester spoke with Chalkbeat Detroit Bureau Chief Lori Higgins, who covers the education beat in Michigan.
