Martha’s back again— Again! And now there are two of her as the weird bath-time clone is keeping a side-eye on the Doctor, as he does his best to foil the Sontaran plan for world domination and keeps a trigger-happy UNIT in check.

Donna, meanwhile, is trapped in the TARDIS, and the TARDIS is trapped aboard General Staal’s spaceship, whence Staal, his clone buddies and Luke Rattigan, aka Not-Mark-Zuckerberg, witness the potatoification of Planet Earth.

And Wilf is in peril. Also the world. And the Sontarans prevent nuclear war with a Tinder app.

Take a seat, Ladies and Gentlemen of Podcastland. We've arrived at the very last Patrick Troughton serial.

In The War Games, The Second Doctor regenerates, albeit not quite into The Third Doctor just yet, and Patrick Troughton certainly goes out with a bang. In fact, he goes out with about a thousand of them, as this Doctor Who serial is filled to the brim with explosions and gunshots.

Warring aliens, The War Lords, have enlisted the services of a Time Lord known as The War Chief, and have captured and transposed soldiers from various times and places and political ideologies in Earth's history to a Westworld-esque arenas. Their plan: to weed out the weak and then, probably, outfit any surviving soldiers with laser rifles and coach them to do battle for The War Lords instead.

Naturally, The Doctor and his companions, Zoe and Jamie (whom we also bid farewell in this serial), get caught in the middle.

Ho-Ho-Ho! Yarp, last year, back in 2016, we got exactly one new Doctor Who episode, namely, The 2016 Christmas Special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio.

What's it about? Glad you asked. Here, have a Bite-Size Chunk Of Who:

10-year-old Grant loves swallowing. Good thing the Doctor shows up on his roof with an indeterminately powerful pill-sized gem for him to ingest and give him super powers.

Fast-foward 24 years. Grant is now a professional nanny and cuckold by day, vigilante superhero "The Ghost" by night. Coincidentally, there’s an alien invasion afoot, perpetrated by brains in jars who now want his super-powered body.

Doc’s there as well, of course, along with returning-character-now-official-companion Nardole and not-Lois-Lane Lucy Fletcher, Grant’s childhood love and present-day employer and stalkee.

Brain surgery, comic book references and alleged hilarity ensue.

Due to travelling arrangements and bumping into Nick Frost’s Santa from the Doctor Who Christmas Special a couple of years ago, this bonus episode is dropping a tiny bit late. Apols for that…

Fret not, however, ladies and gentlemen. Be sure that you were in our hearts at Christmas, on the first day of Chanukah, et al. This ep’s intro may seem a little anachronistic, as Christmas has just come and gone, but it was recorded beforehand and, well, the mixer, mics and I are currently on wholly different landmasses.

A journalist investigating billionaire wunderkind Luke Rattigan and another 49 (!) people around the world simultaneously meet an untimely demise at the hands of Rattigan’s lean, mean, carbon-reducing killing machine.

This gets the attention of UNIT, specifically of Martha Jones, now a real-life Doctor and medical/alien consultant in UNIT’s employ, who interrupts the Doctor giving Donna a flying lesson and summons her old friend back to Earth to investigate what they suspect may be alien tech.
