The story of Gideon is a powerful reminder that God doesn’t look for the strongest or the most qualified – He looks for the willing. Gideon’s journey began with a private act of obedience: tearing down his family’s altar to Baal. As he stepped out in faith, God empowered him to lead. This process includes stripping away his earthly security by thinning his army down from thousands to just 300 men. God often allows our resources, strength, or comfort to be diminished so that we have no choice but to rely entirely on Him. This reminds us that He alone gets the glory. However, Gideon’s story also serves as a warning. Despite a miraculous victory, he ended his life by creating an ephod that became a new idol (distraction from God) for Israel. True victory isn’t just about starting strong or defeating an immediate enemy – it’s about continually trusting God in our weakness and guarding our hearts so we can finish well.
