Who is your God?

Listen Later

The Ephesian believers lived where many people followed the goddess Diana or Artemis, where the magnificent temple dedicated to her was located. In Ephesians 1:15-23, while Paul does not directly engage with such beliefs in his letter, he indirectly shows that the blessings that are in Christ are superior to those of the local religion. The Spirit empowers Paul prays that the believers in Ephesus would be empowered by the Holy Sprit, seeing the riches of ‘their’ calling and inheritance in Christ, which is far better than what any other religion could offer. Christ is exalted Paul shows that Christ is the one who has conquered death, and who is in Heaven, with all authority, rule, and powers under him. The Church is privileged All things are under Christ, not merely for his own good, but for the good of God’s children, the Church (the universal Church, or all believers everywhere across all time). If it is anyone else other than the One God of the Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit, then we are missing out on the true and best blessing. Paul encourages his hearers that they are more privileged than they realise. They should be encouraged. So too should we be encouraged, in Christ, if we are believers.
