As part of mental health awareness month, I reference a conversation I had with Judy Batista from Warwick cares the other day. Judy is a mental health advocate and has championed to help get the 988 crisis/suicide helpline established. I share some song lyrics I wrote that got me through some dark times as well as an inspiration from a friend’s IG post. Life will have it’s ups and downs but how you handle yourself in bad situations speaks volumes as to one’s character. We are all human and being humane should be at the core of our existence.

Well, hello there - appreciate ya listening and all the feedback. As today is May 1 and May is mental health awareness month, not only am I starting another podcast focused on the brain, but I will have some sort of intertwining of mental health advocacy every episode for the month of May. As always, if you or someone you know is having something going on and need some support the number 988 is a national number. You can dial from any phone they’ll put you in contact with someone to help you clear it all up in your brain. Give ya someone to talk to and get support and resources. Sometimes you could feel like oh well I’m good that number doesn’t really help and I’m strong and get through everything but then are stuck…well then, that number can help. Straight up, I’ve called some sort of helpline in my life before an it was helpful. There comes a time when we just need someone to talk to or listen to someone that gives us a different perspective and just a conversation could have a rippling effect. As for the episode, slowing down to speed up can be a thing, if you allow it to be. Everyone’s brain works differently to some degree and seeking to understand instead of jumping to conclusions is what keeps us from burning bridges and collectively ascending the mountain of life. I will say that writing the episode title brought forth a bit of goosebumps – RIP David Bowie. While aspiring to be Bowie-esque is only a fraction of my mission in life(the other fractions being a Jobs-like, Henson savvy, and for shits and giggles Super O’Brien kinda guy… I know I have, quite a distance to go before I could become a space Oddity – right now I’m just a plain oddity that like the great Rodney Dangerfield who gets no respect. I will attest, I am not trying but rather doing my best with my current amount of limited resources to better myself and all though sometimes the struggle is real..I have found it to be truly worth it and know I have still a great distance to go. I am in this for the long haul and must embrace my self induced evolution. I speak of an encounter that my friend Jared and I had with Jeffrey the professional panhandler around the corner from Caliente Cab Co and my efforts to bring a little change into his life for the better…plus some other fun stuff. Do you feel like money is a problem in your life that stresses you out? Many people do, I know I have in the past but we are all human and worrying doesn’t help…We are all doing the best we can but all we can do is focus on our goals, and not just a dollar sign but a goal of what you love. Your Love is your “why” and that motivation can be there through the tough times to keep you focused because sometimes things get tough. Are we envisioning our selves in the success state and all that entails and then reverse engineering our lives or are we just hoping to get there without a strategy. Slowing down to speed up allows us not to be proactive where we can be strategic in our actions. I have found being honest and looking at our “problems” not as a negative but rather just an opportunity helps us keep in a positive, growth mindset. Keeping mental health a priority while also keeping it real is essential to growth.

Does anyone care about anyone besides themselves? Can boundaries be set after none existed? Many think that communicating is just words and conversations but I’ve found that there’s many ways to get a message across and make a connection. Many of the opportunities I’ve been afforded in this life has been due to me following my curiosity and just being friendly with “strangers”…that have become either friends or work associates. Ya never know who ya can meet when you’re walking down the street..
