Who were you before you learned who you had to be?
For years, I thought healing meant getting my energy back, having less pain, sleeping better, and finally feeling like myself again.
But when my body began to get quieter, something unexpected happened.
I started asking different questions.
What do I actually want?
Why am I still doing some of the things I'm doing?
Who am I when I'm not proving, performing, producing, taking care of everyone, or holding everything together?
In Episode 39, we're beginning a new series called The Woman Beneath the Symptoms—and we're going beneath fatigue, overwhelm, autoimmune symptoms, hormonal changes, and nervous-system dysregulation to explore the woman who has been carrying all of it.
We're talking about how little girls learn what earns connection, approval, safety, and belonging; how the “good girl” can become the dependable employee, high achiever, caretaker, wife and mother who handles everything; and how qualities that look like personality can sometimes be patterns we've practiced for decades.
I also share more of my own story of people-pleasing, overriding myself, and eventually having a body that wouldn't let me keep living the same way.
This isn't about blaming our symptoms on our stories—or deciding that serving, achieving, caring for people, or being dependable are bad things.
It's about becoming curious enough to ask:
Am I freely choosing this—or do I no longer know how not to be this?
And maybe the goal in midlife isn't to become an entirely new woman.
Maybe it's having enough safety, wisdom, and courage to finally meet the woman who has been there all along.
This is The Woman Beneath the Symptoms. And we're just getting started.
Listen/watch next: Episode 37, A Simple Reset for Autoimmune + Perimenopause: When Everything Feels Like Too Much, for more on rebuilding capacity—not simply so you can do more, but so you have more room for what actually matters.
