Wholesaling Your Handmade Goods

Listen Later

I love the excitement I hear from makers when they are thinking about moving into wholesaling their wares to retail shops. This is such an exciting step. However, I also hear a million questions about well, how does one actually do that? For me this shift meant doing a ton of research (that’s just kind of my thing, I get made fun of by my friends for starting sentences with ‘In my research I found….) but in this episode I’m basically saving you all that work by interviewing girl-wonder Emily Arbour about just this: how to get your beautiful handmade items into retail stores.

Now. This lady know what she’s talking about. Emily runs Cheerfully Made, the cheeriest little shop that focuses on handmade goods in one of the cutest towns in Ontario (It’s in Almonte and if you haven’t been there yet I highly recommend it.) She has been organizing and running highly-successful craft shows in the Ottawa area for ten years, and most recently started working with ETSY Canada as the new talent curator. I sat down and had a lovely chat with her about all things wholesale.

In this episode we cover:

+ How to know when you are ready for wholesaling your handmade goods

+ When to contact stores

+ How to figure out pricing for profit
