This simple but provocative question—a line from John Denver’s song, “It’s About Time”—is one the entire world should be asking itself at this moment in history. As nation-states attempt to recoil from the reality of global community, relationship, and interdependence, we can no longer base our political choices on making “America Great,” “Canada First,” or any other isolationist cliches. We don’t have to lose in order for others to succeed. Nor can we continue to base our own successes on the failures of others. It’s time to uplift humanity the world over in order for any of us to truly do well.
