Black Lives Matter. This is not a political issue, it's a human issue. Black Lives Matter for Asian Canadians. Why? Because Black people face the most systemic racism and prejudice of any group of people in Canada and around the world. Any sort of systemic racism and discrimination hurts us all because it means that we as a society think that it's "ok" to discriminate. As Asian Canadians, our own history of being discriminated against should make us more empathetic and understanding toward the plight of our Black Canadian brothers and sisters.
"The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people, but the silence over that by the good people." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
