Bryan Fischer here with the Life and Liberty Minute. Democrats insist the District of Columbia must become the 51st state. Are they right? No, they’re not. The Constitution is clear on this, with good reason. In 1783, Independence Hall, where the new central government met, was surrounded by continental soldiers demanding back pay for their service in the Revolutionary War. The Founders had to move the seat of government for a time to Princeton, New Jersey when Philadelphia authorities wouldn’t do anything about it. This confirmed to the Founders that the national capitol should not be at the mercy of any one state. Plus, Democrats know that residents of the District will always vote for the party of bigger government. In 2020, for instance, the Democrats won 92% of the D.C. vote. The Founders were right. Let’s leave things right where they are.
