In this podcast, we spoke to Louise Alltimes, Seed’s Counsellor & Psychotherapist for Children & Young People, to help demystify what psychotherapy actually is and how it differs from other popular therapies such as psychology and CBT.

According to the Mental Health Foundation:

  • 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year
  • 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24
  • 10% of children and young people (aged 5 to 16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem yet 70% have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.
  • And 75% of children and young people who experience mental health problems are not getting the help they need

The most common mental health problems identified in people under 21 are anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, self-harm and those who are neurodiverse.

In this podcast, we cover:

  • What Louise is generally seeing on the ground in her clinic daily
  • The age groups she is seeing most and what is presenting most
  • How she is supporting children and young people
  • How she is supporting young people who are neuro-divergent
  • The importance of parents and caregivers playing a constructive role in the therapeutic process  of their child / teen / young person
