I want to talk about something that’s wrong with our culture. That’s the hiya factor. Especially when it gets in the way of legal matters. I want you to do an exercise with me. Close your eyes and imagine for a moment... your best friend is asking for your help financially. You see that it’s legit, and you want to help. I want you to imagine saying that you will draft a contract for them to sign. I want you to see the other person’s face as you present the document to them, and you hand them to pen to sign it. STOP. I want you to do a self-check. What thoughts were circling in your head? 

 Did you hesitate when I said, draft a contract? Did you cringe when I said, ask them to sign? Did you feel embarrassed and get concerned about what they would think of you? These are some signs that you have an unsupportive mindset in your head about legal documents. Let’s talk about how they hold you down, and what to do instead.
