My dear friend Valarie Adams returns to this episode of "Why Do Pets Matter?" to continue a wonderful chat about grief and mourning the loss of our beloved pets, addressing grief and listening deeply to others who are grieving, and the role good communication plays during emotionally charged end-of-life conversations between vets and owners.
Valarie Adams is a CVT with over 40 years working in veterinary medicine. Graduating from the Medical Institute of Minnesota in 1973 puts her in the “aged but still useful” class.
Her background in veterinary medicine has taken her from working with large and small animal emergency/critical care to delivering in-home veterinary hospice and palliative care. Valarie has lectured and written on death and dying and the human-animal bond.
She fills her soul with her horses, volunteering veterinary care on a Native American reservation and gathering with groups of wise women.

Pets matter because they are sentient beings — and other animals, including billions of animals suffering on factory farms with inadequate legal protections, matter for the same reason.
Human, animal, and environmental interests are intertwined.

Doug Poynter from BetterDogBehaviorNow.com joins us for a conversation about the things you can do with your dog to raise consciousness for both of you. This helps both of you have a much better relationship with one another. Plus we're discussing the things you are (inadvertently) doing that are creating your dog's behavior issues.
Better Dog Behavior Now is the go-to dog training service when no one else can fix your dog training problems.
They’ve been in business for more than 20 years helping dog owners understand their canine family members.
Your behavior often reinforces your pet’s behavioral problems. Becoming aware of problematic behavior is the first step.
Doug eases your mind by showing you the causes of your dog’s behavior problems. As a result, the relationship between you and your dog becomes balanced and a lot more enjoyable.
Many national dog training services use only one method. Better Dog Behavior Now is not limited to one type of training style. Doug has created solutions to countless behavioral problems.
The solutions are based on respect for the dog, their psychology, and motivation. They are easy to understand and implement. Working together, Doug and his clients achieve positive results.

Such a wonderful chat about grief and mourning the loss of our beloved pets -- how to address grief and how to listen to others who are grieving without giving your opinions about grief. We also had a deeply heartfelt conversation about palliative care and hospice.
