Why does it matter that Air Canada's CEO can't speak French

Canada recognizes both English and French as official languages under the Official Languages Act Canada. That means federal institutions—and companies closely tied to national identity—are expected to serve the public in both languages. While Air Canada is now a private company, it was formerly a Crown corporation, and it still has legal obligations to provide services in both English and French.
