Why emotional expression is so powerful

Listen Later

In ‘Made in SG’ Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Julianne Bjørk Yang Counsellor from Alliance Counselling. Yang talks about the consequences of frequent emotional suppression. A recent survey by advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) SG found that 70% of Singapore-based respondents aged 16 to 54 says they expect men to be more emotionally resilient than women, with half of the respondents saying they did not ask for help because they’ve "learnt to deal with it". Yang discusses the costs of suppressing emotions – and on the flipside, the benefits of emotional awareness and emotional expression.
