Why Does God Say That Unlawful Divorce Is Like Murder
We tend to think of divorce as a social issue. But in Ephesians, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that marriage is a picture of Christ and the church, and in the Old Testament, the laws and circumstances regarding marriage and divorce are referenced multiple times to describe God's relationship with Israel. What's more, it is very clear in the Old Testament that God righteously divorced Israel and Judah for their adultery and hardiness of heart. This means that divorce, while only existing due to sin, has its proper place in the world until such time that sin is done away with.
In this episode, we want to tie these issues together and talk about how God is glorified through marriage and divorce and how earthly marriage and divorce are pictures that connect directly to the nature of the gospel. How the church views the sanctity of marriage, and how we deal with the sin of divorce tells us much about the church’s understanding of God’s righteousness. Please join us as we discuss this very important topic.
