Practices that have kept the movement so white persist even when people of color are added to the table. A new report by Green 2.0, an initiative dedicated to increase diversity across the environmental movement, says a big of the probelm is retention. In other words, the movement is struggling to keep people of color on staff once they have hired them. Terra Verde host and Earth Island Journal editor Maureen Nandini Mitra talks about why this is happening and what can be done to stem the diversity leak with Stefanie Johnson, associate professor of management at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Leeds School of Business and author of the report, studies the intersection of leadership and diversity, and George Chavez, cultural and behavioral metrics analyst for Sierra Club’s Equity Department.
