Why I Skipped the Glucose Test During Pregnancy

Listen Later

In this episode, I share why I decided to decline the glucose test for gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. As a Physician Assistant trained in both Western and functional medicine, I felt it was important to take a more intentional approach to my health. Instead of the traditional glucose test, I chose continuous glucose monitoring, which allowed me to make real-time adjustments to improve my overall health, energy, sleep, and glucose regulation. I want to empower women to be their own health advocates, explore their options, and consider alternatives that align with their unique needs.

Takeaways

  • Declining the glucose test for gestational diabetes is an option for low-risk women who are intentional with their health and have a good understanding of their glucose response to specific foods.
  • Continuous glucose monitoring is a powerful tool for optimizing health, energy, sleep, and glucose regulation.
  • Working with a practitioner who understands how to read and interpret continuous glucose monitoring data is important for making effective tweaks and changes to improve glucose levels.
  • Being an advocate for oneself and exploring alternative options for monitoring glucose levels can lead to better health outcomes.
  • Preventative measures, such as continuous glucose monitoring, can help prevent gestational diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
