Why Imposter Syndrome Makes You Overwork — and How to Stop

Listen Later

Feeling like an imposter?

Here’s the truth so many forget: It’s not about your experience or your skills — it’s how you show up in your own mind. I recently had a conversation about imposter syndrome, and what struck me is how often we overcompensate to fill that gap of self-doubt.

We work extra hours, push ourselves harder, and then expect the same from others. When they don’t deliver, resentment builds. And if we pull back to protect ourselves, guilt hits. But here’s the real shift: self-care and boundaries aren't selfish. They’re necessary.

Caring for yourself, taking actions that align with your true values, doesn’t mean you’re ego-driven or unkind. It means you’re grounded. You don’t have to prove your worth through overdoing. Show up honest — just as you are, with confidence in your skills and your authenticity. That’s enough. Worth reflecting on: Are you over-giving because of self-doubt, or because you’re genuinely showing up for your well-being? The long game is kinder and more sustainable. Less burnout, more clarity.

Trust yourself enough to step back and just be.
