My guest today is mom, wife, journalist and now published author; Jamie Blanco. Jamie takes us on a journey through her eyes as well as the perspective from her dad, Jimmy Blanco; who was diagnosed with the most deadliest type of brain cancer in 1995, when Jamie was just 9 years old. At the time, Jimmy was given 17 weeks to live and basically told by doctors to “Go home & die.” That wasn’t in the cards for him and he chose to forge his own path, live his life to the fullest while he still could, find alternative treatments other than radiation and chemotherapy, and ultimately to never give up. Jimmy documents his cancer journey in a journal 8 more years after his diagnosis and Jamie later receives those notes sometime after his passing in 2003. She remembers him writing in his journal and as time went on and life carried through, she states she had always felt a nudge that this story needed to be told. Fast forward to now & Jamie has just released her new book titled, “Hope for the Hopeless” written by her and yes, those notes from her father’s journal. It is also packed with interviews from other cancer fighters, authors, and healthcare professionals. Jamie says that if her book helps at least one person, then it was all worth it!
