Why Science and Humanities Don`t Mix 

과학과 인문학이 함께 일 수 없는 이유

Steven Pinker， the author of such popular science books as “The Blank Slate，” recently wrote science is under attack for its arrogance， vulgarity and narrowness of vision. Why is this happening? Because， he says， science is intruding on the humanities， disciplines lacking in vitality or any real purpose of their own， and the intrusion is resented.

“빈 서판”과 같은 유명 과학저서들을 집필한 스티븐 핀커는， 최근 과학이 오만함， 천박한， 그리고 편협한 시각을 지녔다는 이유로 지탄의 대상이 되고 있다는 취지의 글을 발표했다. 이유가 뭘까? 핀커는 이러한 비판의 이유는， 과학이 인문학의 범위를 침범하고 있기 때문이라고 말한다. 인문학은 활력이 부족하고 그 자체만으로는 실질적인 의미를 찾기 힘든 분야이다. 그러니 이러한 과학의 침범은 분명 상당한 분노를 사게 되는 것이다.
