Social media can feel scary for divorced women for several reasons:

  1. Fear of judgment: Divorce is often stigmatized in society, and women may worry about being judged or criticized by others on social media for their marital status. They may feel like they need to constantly defend themselves or explain their situation, which can be exhausting and stressful.
  2. Fear of harassment: Social media platforms can be a breeding ground for trolls and cyberbullies. Women who have gone through a divorce may worry about being harassed or targeted online. This can lead to feelings of anxiety, fear, and vulnerability.
  3. Fear of oversharing: While social media can be a great way to connect with others and share your experiences, divorced women may worry about oversharing or revealing too much personal information online. They may be concerned about how their posts will be perceived by their ex-partner, their children, or other family members.
  4. Fear of missing out: Divorce can be a lonely and isolating experience, and social media can exacerbate feelings of FOMO (or “fear of missing out”). Women may see posts from their friends or acquaintances who seem to have perfect lives, which can make them feel like they're missing out on something.
  5. Fear of moving on: Social media can make it difficult for divorced women to move on from their past relationships. There is potential to see posts about or photos of their ex-partner or mutual friends, which can bring up painful memories and emotions.
