Women’s sport in Australia is on the cusp of a commercial boom and Chloe Dalton says the window of opportunity is right now.
Chloe is the founder of media platform The Female Athlete Project. She plays for GWS Giants in the AFL women’s league and is one of Australia’s few triple sport elite athletes, having won an Olympic gold medal with the Australian Rugby 7s team after starting her sporting journey with the Sydney Uni Flames in the WNBL.
Investor money is pouring in to women’s sports in the US, and Chloe believes it is a signal of what’s to come in Australia, warning that those who miss the boat will kick themselves in the years ahead.
Chloe tells Tredders and Dion that we’ll see exponential growth when female athletes are paid well enough to go full-time, which will trigger a big shift on and off the field.
She takes on the critics of women’s elite sport and argues that the metrics, and how we assess it, needs to be revisited to fully understand the true value and investment opportunity at hand.
Chloe also issues a challenge to mainstream media to meet audience demand and put women’s sport in the spotlight. “We’re still here!” she says.
