Last weekend, I became sucked into a new TV show on Netflix called ‘Sandokan.’ I’m typically not someone who watches action-heavy shows, but there was a beautiful love story, and I knew of the actor from another show!
The dynamic in the show between the female lead and her two love interests lead me to think about some of the archetypes that I’ve written about in romance books, as well as how these different types of masculinity play out in our daily lives and relationships.
Many of us grow up wanting the prince, then maybe we have a bad boy phase, then we reach a point where we want a man who is kind and romantic and a protector and provider.
However, when we come to face that kind of man, the kind who embodies his inner warrior, it can sometimes trigger our nervous system. He reflects everything we are, and who we can be that we might feel fearful of becoming. Everything would be comfortable and cozy with the prince rather than the warrior! But comfort does not always mean safety and peace.
In this episode, we dive into the difference between a man in his prince archetype vs. warrior, examples from the show (you are warned before any spoiler mentions!) and how true, warrior-like masculinity uplifts your confidence, capability, and femininity.
