Why Yes, We're Friends episodes

  • 129 - Owners Plan, Kawhi Laughs

Brendon and Ronnie take the top of the show to talk some Los Angeles basketball... for all the wrong reasons. They talk about the incredibly sudden (and shady) sale of the Lakers and then reflect on how every new release of Pablo Torre's investigation into the Clippers makes the NBA's "independent" investigation look worse. In the bottom of the show, the argument is made that, with all of the NBA's woes, now is the worst time for a MLB Lockout. Along the way, the fellas wonder if franchise ownership has entered an era of asset flipping and stump (again) for promotion and relegation in American sports. Brendon thinks the kids are all right, and reveals what brought him back to baseball after the 1994 MLB Players Strike. Ronnie blames Shohei Ohtani for how he says "New Balance," and knows way more about the X's and O's of basketball than he leads on.

  • 128 - Ladies, Logos, and Legends

Brendon and Ronnie are celebrating women's sports in the top of the show. First, they introduce everyone to the teams (and logos) of the Women's Pro Baseball League. Then they check in with the WNBA to talk about basketball. (Not the other stuff.) The bottom of the show features the 2026 Hall of Fame class for the NFL. Along the way, the fellas make tentative plans to build Brendon a personal studio space, marvel at how talented the women of the WNBA are currently, and make some way-too-early Stanley Cup predictions. Brendon is taking some time off from Little League baseball, knows where to find all of the ways that San Francisco honors Lillie Hitchcock Coit, and asks when CrossFit became so popular. Ronnie is behind on his podcasting duties, wonders what the hell the Sparks are doing with their roster, and expresses how much he dislikes NFL training camps.

  • 127 - Human Talkies On A Pod

Brendon and Ronnie are on the other side of the MLB Trade Deadline, dedicating the top of the show to moves by the Dodgers and Giants, and then talk about the looming lockout. Then, We Got Time in the bottom of the show with a series of topics from what F1 drivers do during a summer break to many changes coming to MLS in 2027 to our favorite video games of 2001. Along the way, the fellas wonder if it's getting late for Blake Snell's usual late season debut and liken the comparisons of Jordan and LeBron to apples and oranges. Brendon gives an analysis of the many moves by the Giants, and is tempted by becoming a San Jose Earthquakes fan. Ronnie does his best to theorize that MLB will likely adopt the NBA Salary Cap structure, and recalls how he became a lifelong Portland Timbers fan.

  • 126 - Doing Nothing Is Still Doing Something

Brendon and Ronnie are here for the second half of the MLB season with a lot of talk about the upcoming trade deadline. Listen as they read through an article by The Athletic where their staff make "bold" predicitons about each team ahead of the deadline. They tie up a number of other topics such as F1, Sumo, and tinned fish during the We Got Time segment. Along the way, the fellas try to figure out which teams might go for broke, discover that "Lars Nootbaar" is a fun name to say, and make a plea to raise the dohyo in Sumo. Brendon is in Back To School mode, recalls a very fishy prank, and wonders aloud what a Sumo version of Heated Rivalry would be like. Ronnie made alterations to a famous sandwich, remembers when the Dodgers and Mike Piazza had their famous trade deadline divorce, and is shocked to see the Pirates buying at the deadline.

  • 125 - A Little More Conversation, A Little Less Action

Brendon and Ronnie are putting the World Cup to bed after a thrilling Finals weekend during the top of the show. In the bottom of the show, the two try again at working quickly through a number of topics -- this time, potentially, with a new name! Along the way, the fellas express optimism for the upcoming Super Troopers 3, reveal the music albums they would have in their backgrounds like Jeff Passan, and remember the famous LeBron James and Friends Banana Boat picture. Brendon is enjoying the last days of summer before his kids start school again, tells us who "Bob Chuck" is in his household, and declares that Sumo Wrestling might be having a White Boy Summer. Ronnie tells an L.A. story of seeing celebrities in the wild, appreciates a few World Cup commercials, and asks if Nolan Arenado is a Hall of Famer.

  • 124 - Hydration Break Hot American Summer

Brendon and Ronnie are back from their All-Star Week break with A LOT to talk about. The top of the show is dominated by the World Cup coming to a close -- from Finals match-ups to the humiliating exit by the United States Men's team. In the bottom of the show, the fellas take inspiration from a legendary Los Angeles sports radio duo to try to fast track a number of topics. Along the way, the fellas lament the current state of American life, discuss house rules for Monopoly, and talk about hypothetical tattoos inspired by places they've lived. Brendon is hot in Brentwood, reports on the material used for the Phillies All-Star festivities hats, and describes the perfect burger build. Ronnie is nerding out by reading a new tabletop RPG system, compares the Euro soccer tournament to the Royal Rumble, and explains why live sports on Netflix sucks.

  • PATRONUS BONUS - Rushmores & Racetracks

Brendon and Ronnie are taking a week off from their normal programming! However, in it's stead the fellas are releasing this Patreon Bonus episode from back in April. In this episode, the two create Mount Rushmores for the Dodgers and Giants during the top of the show. In the bottom of the show, Brendon presents the show with a Rorschach test of nicknaming F1 circuits by their shape and outline.

  • 123 - Cup Rules Everything Around Me

Brendon and Ronnie have a lot to talk about, including an entire top of the show dedicated to how the World Cup rules everything right now. In the bottom of the show, they dig in to the announcement that LeBron is breaking up with the Lakers before they break up with him, and then cover F1's Austria Grand Prix. Along the way, the fellas pitch alternative ideas to ending World Cup elimination games without going to PKs, remember Zlatan's EPIC arrival in Los Angeles to play for the Galaxy, and believe that Cadillac's F1 debut has been filled with LOTS of growing pains. Brendon is steadily working on new disc golf throwing forms, and explains the downside to anger as a motivational tool. Ronnie loves the efficiency of highway signs in New Jersey, and believes the Mark Walters Era in Lakerland has truly begun.

  • 122 - Intelligent Confidence or Ignorant Arrogance?

Brendon and Ronnie have so much to talk about, they can't even cover all the topics they wanted. They do ask if the national conversation around the Giants is a little too overblown and if the Dodgers have buyer's remorse with Kyle Tucker. They scratch the surface of all the NHL offseason transactions and the WNBA's 30th anniversary game. And they talk about the World Cup's coverage and commentary. Along the way the fellas get nerdy again about baseball gloves and admire the poetry in soccer commentary. Brendon is making up for lost time this summer, and theorizes what happened to Barry Zito after signing with the Giants in 2006. Ronnie has an interesting name for the Oilers's new coaching hire, and (like most people) is disappointed in Alexi Lalas.

  • 121 - Better Than The Police Discography

Brendon and Ronnie cover a lot this week. From the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals coming to a close to Lewis Hamilton's first F1 win in years to the World Cup in action to the state of Giants baseball -- and more! Along the way, the fellas articulate Mark Madsen's dance moves from the Lakers 2001 championship parade, go over the crazy Game 4 comeback by the Knicks in the NBA Finals, and get excited for all the World Cup tourists to see 4th of July fireworks. Brendon is losing one of his favorite Bay Area venues, has fading optimism regarding Tony Vitello, and describes the beauty of the first baseman's glove. Ronnie asks if Danhausen's kayfabe magic is actually real, pinpoints when Carolina swung the momentum of the Stanley Cup Final, and thinks the Mets have been the most disappointing team in the MLB season.
