Hope Bridge by foot at the Mt. Hope Bridge 5K. Join us on Saturday, August 11 for the second annual event, hosted by the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority. 100% of net proceeds benefit the Bristol Rotary and their partner charities. The 3.1-mile race will start at 7:30 AM. Participants will be shuttled from designated parking at Roger Williams University in Bristol to the race start in Portsmouth, Rhode Island on Saturday morning. The course will cross the bridge and follow a scenic loop through a portion of the Roger Williams University campus. Walkers and runners are welcome to participate; all participants must be off the bridge (1 mile) in 20 minutes. This requires a 3 mph. pace. All participants unable to maintain this pace will be escorted off the bridge by race officials. Awards will be given out on site for the top 3 overall male and females. Adams State Park // Newport RIOn Sunday, August 12 from 10AM to 2PM the Newport County YMCA, Fort Adams Trust and the CMAK Foundation, will host an affordable, family end of summer celebration called “Chasing Summer” at Fort Adams. The event is the celebration of the Y’s Race4Chase Kids Triathlon Program. Every YMCA in the state will be represented at the event. There will be music, food, games and plenty of fun! The Race4Chase Program aims to provide kids, aged 6-12, with a safe, healthy, non-competitive environment to discover the sport of triathlon. Designed as a 6-week goal-oriented summer program, participants are provided with expert instruction in swimming, cycling, running, strength training and flexibility and being taught the fundamentals of good nutrition, under the supportive guidance of coaches, lifeguards and instructors to get ready for a USAT-sanctioned race.
